Summer was certainly fading away, the leaves had started to turn, and the clocks were about to change when we held our October Dance at Clifford Village Hall. So what better way to spend an evening than dancing to Caller Philip Mee at a ''Summer Days Drifting Away Dance'', inspired by the film ''Grease'', itself celebrating its 40 years in 2018 - the same year White Rose Squares has been celebrating our own 40th year as a Square Dance Club. The hall was decorated appropriately with pom-poms, and bunting of juke boxes and records.

We had dancers from clubs from across the north, and noted some familiar faces from the Square dance Callers' Club Council there too. Philip treated us to such an assortment of music, peppered with hits from the film. But just before supper, a number of members of Callers' Club joined Philip on stage, and surprised him as a recipient of the Harry Preston Memorial Award for the most progress in the preceding year. Philip was given his own personal banner, created by Caller Cliff Anderton and reads: ''Philip 5² Mee'' - an in-joke telling of when he stood in at a club for Cliff, and the turn-out was particularly good!

We had a lovely night - Philip is a very talented Square Dance Caller who shares his enjoyment of his craft with everybody who dances to him. His own club, Humberside Steppers, are fortunate to have him as their Caller.
