"Stars & Stripes"
We celebrated our 47th Birthday with a dance that celebrated the joy that American Square Dancing has brought us. The sunny weather brought nearly 6 squares to Clifford Village Hall where the hall and refreshment room were decorated in red, white and blue and Stars and Stripes. And many dancers matched the theme too! - A sparkly bow tie, earrings, skirts and shirts, all in the colours of the USA made their appearance, and there was plenty of laughter in the hall. The Dance was expertly Called by Emma Horsfield, a leading Caller in the UK, who skillfully took us through SSD, Mainstream and Plus tips.
Emma had selected plenty of American-themed songs for us, and kicked off with a rousing version of "Independence Day". From there we travelled out to "The Boondocks", "New Orleans", "Qld Broadway" and on to "Delta Queen" - all without leaving Clifford Village Hall.
It was a very successful and enjoyable Dance attended by dancers from across Yorkshire and Lancashire, and Nottinghamshire. We held a raffle and had pot luck for refreshments.
We have plenty of dances coming up - Leah Tinsdeall Calls MS and Plus at our "Hawaiian Holidays" Dance on 19 July, and Carol Holman, Heather Innes and Nick Tillotson Call SSD at the Yorkshire Federation "Northern Lights" Dance on 25 October, sponsored by White Rose Squares - so do come and join us. And if you are browsing our web page and would like to try out square dancing for the first time make a note in your diary for 29 November, 2025, 2pm to 5pm, when Gene Turner and Cliff Anderton are Calling Hoedown for us, aimed at entire novices. Check out the poster.
