Hawaiian Holidays! Dance 19 July 2025
Aloha! Our Chair Nick Tillotson welcomed the dancers with the Hawaiian for "Hello" explaining that the greeting actually has greater meaning than this, incorporating sentiments of Love, Affection, Peace, Compassion and Mercy. It goes well with our pastime which has the motto "Fun and Friendship Set to Music". And this Dance certainly had plenty of fun - a lovely atmosphere.
Almost 5 squares came from across Yorkshire and Lancashire, Hawaiian shirts were in abundance, many wore the Leii and the hall was decorated too. A great atmosphere. After such a period of very hot weather, even though humid it was thankfully a little cooler. Good for dancing! An array of cakes at refreshment time went down happily.
Leah Tinsdeall was our choice to Call this Mainstream and Plus Dance which she did with aplomb. She accommodated some newer Mainstream dancers with ease and moved throuigh a wide range of songs from Rhinestone Cowboy, Edelweiss, Zippity Doo Daa and Love is Made for Me and You to Lord of the Dance, to name a few.
Leah was occasionally accompanied!! on stage by her little boy Asher, who enjoyed dancing on his dad Will's shoulders. Quite a family affair!
Thank you to Leah, Will and Asher and to everybody who came to support our Dance.
We have plenty of dances coming up - We have Carol Holman, Heather Innes and Nick Tillotson Calling SSD at the Yorkshire Federation "Northern Lights" Dance on 25 October, sponsored by White Rose Squares - so do come and join us. And if you are browsing our web page and would like to try square dancing for the first time make a note in your diary for 29 November, 2025, 2pm to 5pm, when Gene Turner and Cliff Anderton are Calling Hoedown for us, aimed at entire novices.
