White Rose Squares held a Hoedown on 29 November. Though late in the year (we had already decided to have one then), this was our contribution to Let’s Dance 2025. The Let’s Dance initiative headed by Angela Rippon and supported by the Sports Alliance aims to get people to try dancing as a way of keeping healthy and getting exercise.
The Hoedown was Called by Gene Turner and Cliff Anderton, who led everybody from absolute basics, made sure they worked out which hand to use, and went in the right direction. By the end of the afternoon our novices had the satisfaction of trying a Grand Square too!
Club members and visitors from other clubs acted as Angels. At refreshment time we had a well-earned rest and held a raffle - gifts donated by club members – raising funds towards our current club charity Harrogate Young Carers.
LET’S DANCE 2026 - OPEN CLUB NIGHT COMING UP -
In 2025 all sorts of dance clubs held some sort of event for Let’s Dance, introducing visitors to their type of dancing and will do so again in 2026. So in 2026 White Rose Squares will be holding an
Open Club Night on Sunday 8 March, 7.30pm to 10pm at Pannal Village Hall
when people will once more be able to have a little go at square dancing and see what is involved in a normal club night. This will include tips for visitors for Let’s Dance 2026 to try interspersed with tips for our regular dancers. It will be free of charge and we’ll have pot luck too.
